This address, given to commemorate veterans of the War of 1812 in New York, is strangely relevant to the Battle of Saratoga. The oration given at the memorial in 1856 was an account not of a battle from the War of 1812, but of the surrender of General Burgoyne at Saratoga in 1777. The topics are related, but the presence of any assembly at Schuylerville in Saratoga seems to evoke memories of the American Revolution, regardless of the occasion.
